Hi there! Check out my recap of the Community season finale on Punchline Magazine. Also let me know if there’s anything else you’d like me to recap during the summer hiatus. My trips to the grocery store: “Lots of hot dads at Fairway today.” My adventures in Brooklyn nightlife: “Last night I came home at 3:45 and found a guy passed out drunk in my elevator.” My latest dating stories: “Boys are dumb. Throw rocks at them.” I am open to suggestions, you guys! (And in case you were wondering, all those things are true. Unless you’re a boy, in which case I want you to know that I don’t think you’re dumb and will not throw rocks at you.)

Hi there! Last night was the first part of Community‘s season finale, and it took us back to where it all began: paintball. Ok, maybe not where it all began, but where it got super awesome. Speaking of super awesome, right here to the right of where I’m typing (you’re going to have to take my word for it), there’s a category box begging to be checked: It says “This post is super-awesome.” (I disagree with the hyphen, but it’s there, so now it’s here.) Whoa! This is new, I think! Should I click it? I want to click it! But I don’t know…. First of all, it’s kind of conceited. Second of all, this isn’t much of a post. I mean, I really appreciate you reading it, and I’m having fun writing it, but as far as posts go…I don’t know…it’s average, right? Not super average or anything, but it’s really just a post to try to get you to go to another post. Plus, I don’t want to be the girl who cried wolf with the super-awesome button. I’m afraid once I click, I’ll never be able to stop. Also, what does the super-awesome button do??? I don’t even know! Ok, I’m gonna save it. When I have a post that’s super-awesome, you’ll know, I’ll know–we’ll all know, and I’ll click the damn button. So.)

Right. Community. Be dears and checkout my latest recap on Punchline Magazine. I’m going to have to watch the episode again, because the trusty and wonderful commenters on Punchline have pointed out some things that I apparently got all sorts of wrong. Hmph. I don’t know how I did that. But anyway, thanks to the Internet, people are always around to point out things you’ve effed up. (JK, commenters, I really do appreciate it. Something did feel amiss while I was typing, just a niggling little tug somewhere that whispered “this recap is not super-awesome, for super-awesomeness comes only with accuracy, you drunk.” I wasn’t actually drunk, but that niggling voice is sometimes random and mean.) Eh, next week I strive for super-awesome, guys. Next week.

(In general, the jubilation and frat-party-ish nature of the celebrations surrounding Bin Laden’s death have kind of been wigging me out, but even I’ll admit that Obama is a mothereffing rock star right now. Nice to see him looking so presidential again. Never too early to say Obama 2012.)

Community recap: It’s all downhill from here

Sorry for the delay, y’all. I’ve been on Vegas time, and by Vegas time I don’t mean that I’ve been three hours behind usual (though I have), I mean that I slept about 7 hours in the course of one weekend and spent a lot of that time not what you would call completely sober. POOR ME.

PS: On the flight home, I coped with my sleep deprivation and desire not to have a panic attack with episodes of the first season of Community. I have to say, the show was always good, but it has come a loooong way. In the beginning of the series, there were hints of what it might become, but whereas the smarts come fast and furious these days, they came in dribs and drabs back then. (I did literally LOL, though, when I saw Greendale’s gender- and race-neutral mascot for the first time. I’m not sure my seatmates on Continental flight 169 appreciated it.)

This week’s brilliant meta-amazingness case in point: Abed tosses Britta a homemade sweatshirt—he’s been giving them to everybody involved in last year’s paintball adventure—emblazoned with the message “It’s all downhill from here.” The paintball episode is what solidified Community‘s fan base. It’s what made most of us realize we were watching something smart and different and really effing good. (It’s also a tease to the rumored reprise of paintball in an upcoming episode). This is a beloved wink that comically tempers our expectations, but don’t be so hard on yourself, Community. If I were a skier, I would use a term meaning the opposite of downhill to describe what you are. (Um, maybe it’s uphill? Yeah, Vegas made me stupid, I think.)
